Simpson County Bicentennial birthday celebration |
Simpson County was founded on January 23, 1824. On Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024, County residents and dignitaries gathered to celebrate our 200th birthday with a party at the beautiful and historic Simpson County courthouse in Mendenhall. As a kickoff to six months of festivities countywide, we were treated to speeches and a luncheon at The Church of Mendenhall, with food provided by The McAlpin House of Magee and old-time music by Dixie and Becky McCoy with Tim Avalon. Afterwards there was cake and a silent auction in the courthouse rotunda, then coffee and an open house at the Simpson County Historical & Genealogical Society. ~ Ross Walton, SCHGS
